ALC - Anakapalli Leprosy Colony (formerly ICLM), operated by The Leprosy Mission, a global Christian charity dedicated to eradicating leprosy's causes and consequences.
Treating individuals with leprosy alongside those with general medical conditions is increasingly common, helping to diminish the stigma associated with the disease. Misconceptions about leprosy's contagiousness have historically fueled fear, despite it being largely non-contagious.
Leprosy predominantly affects developing regions where poverty is widespread, exacerbating socioeconomic disparities due to its potential for disability and societal stigma.
The Leprosy Mission not only provides essential healthcare but also offers training and education to those affected by leprosy, advocating for their human rights.
ALC plays a vital role in educating communities about leprosy, dispelling myths about its contagion and origins, while promoting acceptance and understanding. Additionally, ALC empowers individuals affected by leprosy to advocate for their rights.
